Buying a Porsche Carrera GT is Still Crazy After 17 Years
Despite its age, the old school, manual, naturally aspirated Porsche Carrera GT remains a dream car for many auto enthusiasts.
It’s amazing to think Porsche‘s Carrera GT has already been with us for a full 17 years. Bursting on the scene with a concept in 2000, and then production in 2003, the Carrera GT really filled a pair of shoes no other Porsche had worn before. The V10 was epic then, and it is still epic to this day. That’s why supercar connoisseur Shmee150 (a.k.a. Tim Burton) was on hand to witness another YouTuber collect a new prized possession.
From his stash of supercars, Burton decides to take out his Aston Martin GT8. “It’s similar to the Carrera GT in some ways. It’s manual, old-school, naturally aspirated engine. A car about being driver-focused and enjoyable for the country lanes,” Burton says. For us, we like that it has a great sound, especially when clicking through the gears.

Being from the UK, a natural place to meet a dream car is at a cherished racing circuit. Burton asks his friend, Tom Exton, “you’re out on the start straight, how does it feel here at Goodwood?” Exton says, “It doesn’t feel real, I’m at a loss for words! I genuinely don’t know what to say.” Pretty significant words from an entrepreneur that owns a number of other exotics according to his Instagram page.

We get to live vicariously through these supercar collectors, and Burton clues us in on something interesting about the Porsche. “I don’t know if everyone watching realizes this, but you have to resist the urge to press the throttle while you’re pulling away.” We presume this comes from the Carrera GT’s racing style clutch, but it looks like you just let the car’s torque carry you away from a stop.
One of the best parts about the Carrera GT is its V10 engine sounds. This particular one is modified, which makes the sounds even better. Sadly burton had to depart without giving us much ear candy, but you can be sure we have subscribed to Exton’s channel, TGE TV.
