Don’t Miss the New Porsche 911 Turbo S Highlight Reel

By -

Porsche releases upon the world the quickest and most powerful 911 Turbo that it has ever produced.

Aside from the GT cars, all Porsche 911s utilize turbocharging nowadays. However, there is only one Turbo with a capital T. The 911 is an iconic car in its own right, and the Turbo may be its most iconic iteration. The 911 Turbo since day one has been characterized by its wide stance, big wing and big power. The new 992-based car continues this tradition. With the new model Porsche has decided to first launch the more powerful ‘S’ variant in both coupe and cabriolet form.  These new cars develop 640 horsepower, which is roughly two and a half times the power that the first Turbo produced back in 1975.

That first 911 Turbo offered thrilling performance but was also a bit of a handful to drive and earned its ‘Widowmaker’ moniker. The newer versions are not only much faster but have much more predictable handling and have become known as the everyday supercar. It is an exclusive and beautiful machine with mind bending performance. However, it is also a perfect daily driver. It is comfortable, offers good visibility, decent storage space, and with the advanced all-wheel drive system can manage any weather with ease. The 911 Turbo can do it all, and in this video, Porsche shows us a few of its more interesting highlights.

911 Turbo generations

The engine is based on the 992 flat-six architecture and in the Turbo S is 3.8L in size. The charge-air cooling has been enhanced and the routing of air has been updated. The new 911 Turbo S has four intakes with a larger overall cross-section and lower resistance, helping to improve engine efficiency. The engine also features larger turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG). The car will accelerate in to 60 mph in the low to mid two second range and hit 205 mph on the top end.

The new car has larger front and rear track width along with more advanced aerodynamics. There are now adaptive cooling air flaps at the front of the car along with a variable front spoiler. The rear wing is larger than before and creates more downforce and works in conjunction with the front spoiler to act as an air brake when necessary. The new turbo rides on mixed tire sizes. It has 255/35 20-inch tires upfront mounted on Turbo S design wheels, and in back are massive 21-inch 315/30 tires. If you look through the wheel spokes you can’t miss the standard Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system with 10-piston front calipers.

On the safety front, the new Turbo S includes the WET mode found on the rest of the 992 range. It also has Porsche InnoDrive, adaptive cruise control. This system pulls precise map data, including curve angles and elevation changes, and operates the accelerator and brake for you in the quickest and most efficient way possible. LED headlights and Porsche Dynamic Light System is also standard.

On the inside you will be treated to a 911 Turbo specific interior. The standard equipment list includes a full leather interior and carbon trim in combination with light silver accents. A BOSE® Surround Sound System is also standard and includes a 100-watt subwoofer. The adaptive sport seats have a headrest embossed with the ‘Turbo S’ logo and patterns that pay tribute to the first 911 models.

Porsche has raised the bar once again with its latest turbo models. There is no doubt that these newest turbo cars are going to be highly desirable just like the generations before. The only questions now are do you want a coupe or convertible, what color, and how are you going to get your hands on two hundred thousand dollars?
