Cars-N-Coffee at MFD Classic Motors

MFD Classic Motors in Traverse City Michigan. If you’re ever in the area, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Living on the “North Coast”, Michigan’s Northern Lower Peninsula, is sometimes tough for a car enthusiast. We have long winters, short summers, no local road courses, only a few small car clubs, and did I mention the long, cold, snowy, car destroying winters?
Thankfully we have MFD Classic Motors. The facility is located in the heart of Traverse City and houses an impressive collection of cars. MFD recently hosted a Cars and Coffee event. Granted, we may not have the turnouts that the west coast gets at their Saturday morning get-togethers however, there was some pretty impressive hardware on hand. I was impressed by the diversity of cars and the good nature of everyone at the event. There was no import vs. domestic, or exotic vs. muscle. Just true enthusiasm for everything automotive.

Porsche Speedster. Sure it’s a kit, but the attention to detail and modern, refined interior make for a nice daily driver.

The pearl paint on this Type 181 “Thing” was unbelievable. Pictures can not do that paint job justice.

Looking for a little muscle? This was a very well built truck. The attention to detail was incredible.

I had to borrow this picture from the MFD website. During the event the car was on a life receiving suspension work. This car is chassis number 1 of 5 built for the Speed Vision GT series in the early 2000’s. The car was later used by Audi of America’s racing division for drivers to practice. Basically, if you had a favorite Audi team driver racing here in the states, odds are he sat behind the wheel of this AWD, twin turbo beast.

A very clean pair of Studebaker Avanti coupes. the white car was used as a dealership promotional car.

The red car is an Allard. The cream colored car is a 1952 Glasspar G2, the first fibergalss bodied production car. Not pictured is an Allard coupe, one of two in existence. The second Allard is en route to the Goodwood festival where it will be prominently displayed.
