Born to Be Mild: Porsche 991 Spy Shots

Porsche 911 facelift 1

It seems like only yesterday we were introduced to the new Porsche 991, and yet, here are some spy shots that show Porsche is already thinking of the mid-cycle refresh?

In the land of cars, automakers tend to make subtle changes to the cars design mid-way through the cars production cycle. It allows the automaker to keep using a fairly expensive design over a longer period without having to redo all of the R&D that is normally associated with building a car.

This “new” 991 has a few differences in the body, although unless you are a Porsche fanatic or one of the engineers that worked on the car, I’ll excuse that you can’t spot them all.

First off is the rear bumper that has been mildly redesigned, and the car’s rear-engine hood gets a whole new intake grill to keep the engine cool. It looks pretty retro.

In addition to the rear restyling, whenever you get one of these mid-cycle refreshes, one place that always gets changed is also the headlights.

The car gets full LED daytime running lights and a small change in the headlight design. What I’m surprised from, is that it didn’t get the quad spider eye lights that the new Cayenne, 918, and a few other models have. I really dig those and they make it effortless to see at night.

No word on whether or not these “new” Porsche’s will receive a power bump, but mules have been spotted around the ‘Ring that sounded an awful lot like they were turbo charged, or that they had 4-cylinders.

I sincerely doubt that Porsche would stray too far from the formula at least on this generation of car, so figure a few horsepower increase, but they will save the big stuff for the next generation of car.

All I know is that I’m a big fan of Porsche and will drive anything they want me to drive.
