Motorsports racing is as much skill as it is driver and team ingenuity. If you’re not driving for a multi-million dollar race team, it can be tough recovering from a blown engine or an accident. For 1950s Ferrari drivers, it was made even worse by a lack of replacement engine options.

So instead of not competing, or waiting a long time for replacements, engineers looked around and noticed Chevrolet V8s are easy to come by. That’s how the Ferrari powered by a Chevrolet V8 was born. Plus, the Chevy V8s were probably more reliable than the Italian counterpart.

Hemmings Daily has a nice piece on their website detailing some of the various cars that were powered by Chevy V8s, and ultimately how much they eventually sold for at auction. Despite not having an Italian heart, these cars are still worthwhile and collector’s items, bringing in big cash.

One drawback to not having a Ferrari V8 under the hood of your car though is the exhaust note. A Chevy V8 sounds good, but it wouldn’t sound the same. But when it comes to winning, that doesn’t really matter.

Head over to the forums and let us know what you think!
