Is the Porsche 911 Turbo Faster Than the Dodge Demon?

If the Dodge Demon is faster than a Porsche 911, there are a few too many stipulations for some 6speedonline members to swallow.

Motortrend recently took the chance to drive the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon at a drag strip. Dodge claims the Demon can get to 30 mph in 1-second, and 0–60 mph in 2.3 seconds. It also has certification from The National Hot Rod Association that it ran a quarter mile in 9.650 seconds at 140.09 mph. Under the conditions chosen, a prepped Demon with a pro driver is sub 10 second car.

6speedonline forum member pointed out, more flamboyantly than we will here, that there’s a lot of stipulations required to get the Dodge numbers. The original poster on the thread pointed out that the times reported from Motortrend driving the Demon aren’t that spectacular.

Motortrend certainly didn’t have ideal ambient temperature conditions. The car provided had heavy options that weren’t on the factory cars for their sub 10-second runs. Dodge obviously didn’t want to risk not getting the stated numbers under perfect conditions. On top of that, Dodge didn’t allow the track timers to be used. But Motortrend noticed the fastest run recorded by the cars computer that day was 11 seconds.

The 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo has a recognized 10.7 seconds on the quarter mile. The Turbo S has demonstrated a 10.5 second time. Both models can do the times without drag racing slicks and pizza-cutter front tires. Without deleting the passenger seat or taking off the door mirror. And certainly without a special serial numbered crate.

So, is a car that requires a crate of goodies and some wrenching to be a production-car record holder? Do you consider the Porsche 911 Turbo S the faster production car? Or is the Dodge Demon faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo S?
