Factory Porsche Cayenne Takes on Moab Trails

No lift? No problem. This bone-stock Porsche Cayenne takes on Hell’s Revenge

Hell’s Revenge, one of Moab, Utah’s toughest trails, claims quite the laundry list of vehicular victims every year. Tall, jagged rock climbs that will test approach and departure angles, rock crawls that will test ground clearance, and surfaces that test tire quality. For a trail that’s only 6.5 miles long, it feels like it takes ages to clear successfully. Harrison Schoen, known across the digital landscape for insane Porsche Cayenne off-road builds, decided to switch things up by taking a factory stock Cayenne (aside smaller wheels and bigger tires) and taking it to Utah to tackle Hell’s Revenge. Unsurprisingly, it did well.

What’s most notable is that a Porsche Cayenne, particularly a 2008 Cayenne S, is a very suitable Moab vehicle in disguise. With a center locking differential, famous all-wheel drive capabilities, low range gearing, adjustable air suspension and a 4.8 liter V8 making 369 lb. ft. of torque, it has all the essential ingredients. More and more people like Schoen are realizing that taking advantage, with Cayenne builds popping up more frequently.

Hell’s Gate, another one of Moab’s notably difficult HOV trails, was easily conquered by the Cayenne. Many trail blazers were so perplexed by this seemingly harmless Cayenne and stopped to watch, only to be shocked by how easy the German made it look.

Schoen’s friend Ryan showed up to have a go of the trails in his Honda MDX, which had a two inch lift combined with smaller wheels and tires. After watching the Cayenne go through Hell’s Gate, he was urged by Schoen to try it in the MDX. His response to being asked if he wanted to take a turn was simply, “I do, but not right now. I think I need to buy another vehicle first.”

For someone who regularly works with Cayenne’s to make incredible overlanding/off-roading rigs, Schoen was still surprised by the vehicle’s abilities without the aid of modifications.
