Gas Monkey Garage, Legacy EV Team Up to Create Ferrari Testarossa ‘Electro-Mod’
Nicknamed ‘Testa,’ this Ferrari Testarossa EV conversion is both more powerful and lighter than the original.
Though Fast N’ Loud may be no more, its eccentric star – Richard Rawlings – and his shop, Gas Monkey Garage, are still around and kicking, turning out interesting builds on a regular basis. These days, Rawlings is more focused on social media and building his brand that way, which makes quite a bit of sense in today’s world – especially since many of those builds are given away, too. However, the latest GMG creation is quite a bit different than the typical classic American iron we’re used to seeing – rather, it’s an all-electric Ferrari Testarossa that the shop claims is the world’s first “Electro-Mod.”
Nicknamed “Testa” – something of a play on the Ferrari Testarossa nameplate and Tesla – this particular creation started life as a regular old 1989 version of that famous sports car, which was also one of five featured in the 2021 movie, Infinite, starring Mark Wahlberg. GMG and Legacy EV set out to modernize this older model in multiple ways, with the biggest, of course, being its powertrain. Long gone is the original V12, and in its place is a fully-electric setup that churns out more power than its old ICE lump.
That setup consists of a custom battery pack utilizing 36x KORE Power Modules and a Cascadia Motion iDM-190 Integrated module motor, which churns out 300 horsepower and 386 pound-feet of torque. That’s not only more than the original V12, but this combination is actually also 400 pounds lighter, which is impressive given how heavy EV conversions usually are. Testa also features Level 1 and 2 charging capability with a max rate of 6.6kW, and offers up around 170-225 miles of range.
“It was a great experience collaborating with Richard Rawlings and his talented team at Gas Monkey Garage to build this Ferrari Electro-Mod,” said Rob Ward, CEO and founder of Legacy EV. “His passion for this custom car was contagious and we jumped at the chance to lend our EV expertise and parts to the project. As a leader in the EV space, it’s incredibly rewarding to work with Gas Monkey Garage, which confirms that Legacy EV is heading in the right direction and building the future of EV.”
“Working with Rob Ward and his team at Legacy EV, we pushed the envelope on the conversion of this classic Ferrari,” said Richard Rawlings, CEO of Gas Monkey Garage. “I admit that my vision for an EV Testarossa was an unprecedented, boundary-pushing idea. But when I talked with Rob, we came up with an EV solution that really works. We broke the boundaries on this build, and the final product is a testament that the next wave of vehicle customization is embracing EV conversions.”
