The Grand Tour’s #NewDriverWanted Audition With Ex-F1 Driver Mark Webber

The Grand Tour is about to start its second season and they are in search of a new professional driver. Is Ex-F1 driver Mark Webber up to the task?

Mark Webber is an amazing driver who has driven at all levels of motorsport. The Australian is a former Formula One driver, a Red Bull Athlete, and a former Porsche Prototype driver. His driving resume is very impressive and he has nine Grand Prix wins in Formula One. So, when the Grand Tour and the boys formerly of Top Gear were looking for a new fast driver Webber is an easy choice. He is very fast, vey consistent, and loyal to him brands.

Speaking of brands, Mark Webber is a FIA World Endurance Champion, which he won driving for Porsche. He was competing in the 919 Hybrid prototype racecar when he won. In this video, Webber shows up the the audition in a new Porsche Panamera Hybrid. This is fitting given his relationship with the brand. He even starts his first lap in the new Porsche GT2 RS. Webber flies off the line with the rear wheels spinning, as the 700 horsepower twin turbo flat six roars away. He hustles the Porsche around the track at a blistering pace.

Once across the line, the boys ask him to do a lap in the new Mercedes AMG GT-R. The twin turbo four liter V8 in the Mercedes is no slouch pushing out 577 horsepower. The GT-R is the hardcore track car with an aim for Porsche’s GT3RS. So, while it will not be as fast as the Porsche, it should put down a very quick lap time. So, we won’t spoil the gag and tell you what happens, but it is videos like this that prove the boy from The Grand Tour still got it. Also Mark Webber is a mad man behind the wheel of the GT2RS.
