Jay Leno Reviews The 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante

By -

Lamborghini turns the performance up to 11 on the Huracan with active aero and forged composites. Jay Leno meets the bonkers Huracan Performante.

Lamborghini has been building a mid-engine V10 supercar since 2004 with the Gallardo. The latest evolution is the Huracan and it is monstrously quick, but apparently not quick enough for Lamborghini. In the previous generation, Lamborghini made the Superleggera or “super light,” which took out weight and increased engine performance.

In the Huracan they were looking to do the same, removing weight and adding performance. So, why isn’t it a Superleggera? Well, the focus was on all-out performance, so it is the Performante, or “performance” in Italian. So, what does this mean for the latest raging bull?

The approach was a complete overhaul. The V10 motor gets an additional 29 horsepower, pushing power up to 631 and torque is up 30 ft-lbs to 443. On the suspension-and-chassis-front Lamborghini increased the spring rates, changed the roll bars, and retuned the magnetic shocks. The chassis has additional bracing to cope with the extra power. On the scales, the new Performante weighs in at 90 pounds less then the standard car. This weight loss is after the addition of new active aerodynamic pieces. So, the weight loss is pretty impressive.
