JDM FD RX-7 Is a Stunning ‘OEM+’ Poster Child

At $35,000, this JDM FD RX-7 with low mileage and tasteful modifications is a deal we’re all bummed we missed.
It’s a staple trope for any automotive enthusiast to window shop for cars on the Internet constantly. We’re no exception, here, and sometimes we find cool stuff that we have to share! While browsing various auction sites, we stumbled on this drop-dead gorgeous JDM FD RX-7 and, well, now you’re reading about it!
This JDM FD RX-7 Type R (branded Efini in Japan, but we assure you it’s a Mazda) made an appearance on Cars and Bids and, quite frankly, sold for what we think is an absolute steal. With only 18,500 original miles and a host of tasteful mods, it’s a downright drool-maker for fans of the rowdy rotary legend.

Modified, but Done Right
As a general rule of thumb, modified cars of this caliber sell for less than a pristine and bone-stock one. Mileage may vary, but for the most part, those looking to collect these staples in automotive history want it as bland and boring as possible! We get it, modifications add a layer of uncertainty that can call the car’s treatment and upkeep into question. In the case of this RX-7, though, the OEM+ modifications are phenomenal additions. Though they likely played a large part in the reasonable final hammer price.
The most obvious modification is also the one that is likely most questionable to potential buyers. It’s a Momo aftermarket steering wheel that both suits the interior well and is appropriate for the car’s era. In addition, the seller included the original steering wheel in the sale. So, if the buyer’s taste doesn’t align with the wheel, no harm, no foul. In addition, a Mazdaspeed cat-back exhaust system and a Mazdaspeed 300-km/h speedometer are also present. Finally, AutoExe suspension and a Pioneer head unit bring up the rear of the modification list.
So, by no means are the modifications over the top or questionable. However, other than those modifications and light wear on interior touch points and creases in seats, this thing is about as perfect as they come. At just $35,000, it seems like a steal in a world where Integra Type Rs are selling for six figures. Especially considering the remarkably low mileage.

JDM Is the Way to Buy
In general, buyers can find a bit of a discount on staple cars like the FD RX-7 and Toyota Supra if it’s a right-hand-drive JDM-sourced model. Sure, the woes of unprotected lefts and staying in your lane behind the wheel of a RHD car can be a bit of a nuisance, but you get used to driving them quite quickly.
At any rate, we’re just hoping this phenomenal JDM FD RX-7 is going to a cool appreciative owner who won’t be afraid to drive it! It’s no secret that we hate to see cool cars become trailer queens. We’re just glad we got a chance to check it out in photos!
