Lotus Evora Is Practically Perfect, So Why Are We Ignoring It?

Evora

Inexpensive, reliable, nimble, powerful. The Evora ticks all the right boxes and should be a hit. Let’s make it so.

Hypercars are all the rage. They have headline grabbing power and top speed figures. They have prices that relegate them to mythical status. But that also means they are rarely driven. Phooey. Here at 6SpeedOnline, we have a preference for cars that are meant to be driven. Cars such as the Lotus Evora.

Even in its most lukewarm form, the Evora has a stout 275 horsepower, but one must remember that comes from a Toyota V6 placed just behind the driver and passenger. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this car really is the epitome of a driver’s car. This car is remarkably simple in its approach, and is unapologetically old-school. And the best part is that they are inexpensive, as seen by this CarBuzz report

Evora

We are talking about $30,000 for a low-mileage example inexpensive. Granted, there are newer and more powerful versions in the six-figure range.

Lotus also seems to be the only manufacturer willing to make such a car, too. The Italian empires of Lamborghini and Ferrari are willing to make SUVs, but are seemingly unwilling to make a pared down and simple sport car. Even fellow English carmaker McLaren hasn’t hinted at anything less than a V8-powered supercar.

Perhaps the one thing going against the earlier Evora models is that it just isn’t visually stunning. It’s a well-proportioned car for sure, but just is a bit too bubbly and soft.

We all know that styling does play a significant role in the initial purchase and appeal of a car. After all, you want your mid-engine car to look sharp and stunning. We have to admit these are words that don’t describe the Evora.

But we suppose for those of us looking for a stellar deal on a mid-engined sports car, we’ll learn to like the looks, and instead enjoy the view from the driver’s seat. Lotus made the Evora’s interior similar to that of the Elise and Exige. Simple, albeit plain. But if you want something very driver-focused, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better car. Time for us to search classified ads.
