After a handful of pandemic-related delays, Porsche confirms that the Macan EV is coming early 2024

For a while now, Porsche has waved the Macan EV in front of our faces like a carrot on a string, only to be pushed back due to the typical pandemic-related issues. Now, after the company has caught up just enough, Porsche confirms that the Macan EV will be within reach by early 2024. In typical Porsche fashion, it will be an all-electric performance oriented machine with a surprising range — supposedly better than the Taycan. On an all new platform, new battery tech and a Porsche-esque amount of power, it’s an EV we’ve all been waiting for.

For the new Macan, Porsche developed the new PPE platform alongside Audi specifically with luxury in mind. It will come with exciting driving dynamic, a front and rear electric motor, and will be the foundation for a Macan trim that produced 603 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Porsche is hoping that with this new platform, it will help propel them into a position to have 80% of their sales to be EVs by 2030. Not saying goodbye to their powerful gasoline-powered engines, they’re also investing engines that are powered by carbon-neutral and synthetic fuels. Like every other automaker, though, the focus is on an electric future.

Though, an all-electric variant for the Macan will not be boring. Like the Taycan, Porsche’s goal is to make the Macan both efficient, effective and fun to drive. Abundant power aside, the Macan EV will utilize an 100-kwH battery hooked up to an 800-volt electrical system that can charge from 5-80% in just 25 minutes. Which is important, especially since the PPE platform leaves room for rear and all-wheel drive setups, which the Macan can come with.

Also different from the Taycan will be a one-speed transmission instead of a two-speed, increasing the range to 242 miles — better than the Taycan by a handful. By implementing a rear mounted sporty differential behind the axle, Porsche claims that the Macan EV will be the sportiest car in its segment. The mounting position is inspired by the 911, and it provides stability and power when coming out of corners. Showing us all that with the Macan, all-electric vehicles can be both good for environment and the soul.
