Matt Farah is Frustrated with Porsche’s Navigation System
Porsche’s navigation draws ire from Matt Farah during One Take review.
“SHUT UP!”, the angry bald man shouts at the disembodied voice emanating from the center stack of his brand new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS. He has taken a U-turn to attack the same section of road a second time and the car doesn’t appreciate going out of its way. In proper Germanic fashion, this beautiful low-slung silver dart has no time for dalliances.
“Zis will not do, we haf to make good time. Efficiency. Efficiency. Efficiency. Zare is no time for emoshuns.”
The car uses its GPS system to alert the man to his mistake with a gentle prodding to turn around at the nearest available opportunity.
Of course, the car has no idea that it was built for fun. It cannot fathom the world in which it has been shipped from Germany to end up in rural Nevada on Highway 341. The Porsche has no idea who Matt Farah is, or what a one take is, or that it is now the subject of a YouTube video. It doesn’t even know what YouTube is. All the car has been programmed to do is follow the route and alert the driver that he’s deviated from that route. Now it’s being berated for doing that job. It’s a good thing that Sat Nav doesn’t have any ears to hear such a brow beating. Or a brain to process those words. Or feelings of any kind.
(Matt’s frustration begins at about the 7:30 mark of the video after he makes a u-turn on the outskirts of Virginia City.)
As to the review of the car itself, Matt does seem to like Porsche’s new 3-liter turbocharged version of the Carrera GTS. Having driven the old GTS and the new Carrera S, we can see how the two would easily combine into a great car. It’s likely to be the best part of Porsche’s current lineup. If you’re in the market, you should consider one for your driveway. Matt says he’d order a rear wheel drive model with a seven-speed manual with as few options as possible. Maybe just keep the sat nav off next time you find a fun road, though.
