McLaren 620R R Pack

McLaren Special Operations has developed an optional R Pack to add to the already special 620R.

Recently, McLaren introduced a road-going version of its 570S GT4 race car called the 620R. Only 225 620R models are available to order right now, and it’s something special. The twin-turbo 3,8-liter V8 engine is dialed up to produce 611 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque, and the race-car features include a revised aero system, carbon-fiber racing seats, carbon-ceramic brakes, and manually adjustable suspension developed to utilize slick racing tires without changing the geometry. Now, McLaren has added an optional R Pack to add to the already spectacular 620R’s look and sound.

As you would expect, the R Pack adds plenty of carbon-fiber, but also a spacial Titanium SuperSports Exhaust that adds around five decibels of extra V8 race car noise over the standard Sports Series exhaust. The exhaust is finished with McLaren’s Nano Black Exhaust Finisher and matches all the new carbon-fiber body parts. The R Pack’s most noticeable extra is a functional carbon-fiber roof scoop that’s inspired by the McLaren F1 Longtail. The roof scoop can also be fitted with a camera for recording sessions at the track and work with the McLaren Track Telemetry (MTT) system.

Also added is what McLaren calls “MSO Defined Gloss Finish Visual Carbon Fibre Front Fender Louvres.” Then, a carbon-fiber interior accent pack gives the inside even more of a race car feel. At around $32,000, McLaren says the pack’s cost is less than if all the options are added separately. Other options include a choice in GT4 race-car inspired colors. Customers can choose between McLaren Orange with white racing stripes, Silica White with orange stripes, or Onyx Black with orange stripes. On top of that, any choice of race number decals and sponsorship decals can be included.

His obsession with cars started young and has left him stranded miles off-road in Land Rovers, being lost far from home in hot hatches, going sideways in rallycross cars, being propelled forward in supercars and, more sensibly, standing in fields staring at classic cars. His first job was as a mechanic and then trained as a driving instructor before going into media production.

The automotive itch never left though, and he realized writing about cars is his true calling. However, that doesn’t stop him from also hosting the Both Hand Drive podcast.
