McLaren Racing to Showcase Three Historic F1 Racecars at Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

The F1 racecars include the 1974 McLaren M23/05, 1984 McLaren MP4/2 and 2024 McLaren MCL38/02.
McLaren Racing is bringing three historic F1 racecars to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The lineup includes the 1974 McLaren M23/05, 1984 McLaren MP4/2 and 2024 McLaren MCL38/02. These cars were raced by Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda and Lando Norris respectively. These cars are normally housed in the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England but they are travelling across the pond to help celebrate Formula 1’s 75th anniversary.
And as if that is not exciting enough, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown will pilot Niki Lauda’s 1984 McLaren MP4/2 in exhibition. The other two cars will be on static display from August 13 to August 16. “It’s fantastic to be back at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, it’s one of my favorite events of the year and it’s an honor to get behind the wheel of Lauda’s MP4/2, a car the team were so successful in. I’m looking forward to being part of the Formula 1 anniversary celebrations,” said Brown.

McLaren is dominating the F1 Constructor’s Championship so far in 2025. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are currently first and second in the Driver’s Championship. Last year the MCL38/02 helped McLaren claim the F1 Constructor’s Championship. Lauda won the Driver’s Championship in 1984 behind the wheel of the MP4/2. McLaren took the Constructor’s Championship that year as well. The M23/05 delivered a Driver’s and Constructor’s championship in 1974. McLaren has a long and storied history in F1 and it is appropriate that their cars help celebrate 75 years of the sport.
Other F1 and Racing Displays

McLaren is not the only manufacturer in the spotlight. The Mario Andretti Trophy race group will also be there. This group features F1 cars from 1966 – 1985. Marques such as Tyrrell, Williams, Lotus, Brabham, Wolf and Ferrari will be racing daily.
And the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is about more than just F1. In fact, the historic F1 race group is just one of 14 race groups that will be featured at the event. There will be over 400 authentic historic racecars taking part in the activities. Each car has been thoroughly vetted for their race provenance and period-correctness to the day the car originally raced.
