Nissan has confirmed that production on the GT-R Nismo is ‘on track’ and we could see it hit showrooms as early as next year after it’s predicted unveiling at the Toyko Motor Show in November.

“The Nissan GT-R Nismo is the GT-R with which we pursue pure performance,” says Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan GT-R and Nismo Chief Product Specialist. “It is for people who search for true performance with pure motorsports flavour. Its development is on schedule, and I can’t wait to see the model introduced into the markets.”

No technical specifications have been released by Nissan but a modified version of the twin-turbo V6 producing in excess of 570 bhp is expected.

Developed in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, the GT-R will undergo a serious weight loss plan to help reduce the near-1800 kg kerbweight. Carbon fibre aerodynamic upgrades and a new exhaust system are likely, with extensive use of carbon fibre used in the interior to further lower the weight.

The GT-R Nismo continues the expansion of the Nismo brand, following on from the Juke, 370Z and Micra. Nissan has sold more than 3,700 Juke Nismos in Europe, Japan and North America since its launch in January with the Z Nismo accounting for 15 to 30 per cent of Z model sales depending on the market.

“We are delighted to see that our Nismo models are well perceived by the markets,” said Shoichi Miyatani, Nismo Business Office head of Nissan and President of Nissan Motorsports International, “We are encouraged to introduce further models into the markets, which will surely provide additional thrills and excitement to customer’s lives.” No price for the GT-R Nismo has been announced as yet, but expected to pay in excess of 100,000 Euros.
