They say the best way to liquidate your savings account is to buy a super cheap sports car thinking it would be a “smart purchase”. Sadly, one might end up spending more in repairs instead of enjoying a drive down the coast every Sunday.

Despite one’s better judgment, Jalopnik’s contributing writer did exactly that, he went out and bought a 1999 Porsche 911. The purchase was made from a used car dealer without any paperwork documenting the vehicle’s history for $9,500 and 243,000 miles on the odometer. Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?

It seems everything and nothing. While deemed personally comfortable in diagnosing a car’s mechanical status, Trevor took the risk and flew across the country to purchase the vehicle. The greatest hits from his experience are bullet-pointed below:

The Pros:
Regardless of the supremely high-milage, the Porsche handled incredibly well. “Driving a 911 is like driving an extension of your own body. Very few modern cars give you this visceral feeling of being totally connected. It’s as if you can control the car by thought. Whatever you think the car should do, it does, and it talks back to you. No, it feels back to you. You feel everything the car is going to do.”

– The engine, transmission, seals, and everything else in-between work flawlessly, for now.

The Cons:
Currently none. Except for an unexpected and deep-seeded love for a car that will likely lead it’s owner into financial ruin.
