Porsche 911 GTS Driven by Carlos Lago

By -

Porsche 911 GTS meets automotive journalist Carlos Lago.

So, what makes the GTS a GTS? Well, it’s a rear-wheel drive 911, that is sportier than the S, but not quite at the level of the GT3. Additionally, it features the Carrera 4 widened rear haunches. So, a bit more everything, power, suspension, and looks, but this particular GTS also features a bit less. Specifically, it lacks the Porsche Doppelkupplung Getriebe, aka the PDK gearbox.  In it’s place is the divisive 7-speed manual. Porsche manual transmissions are some of the finest in the business, but 7-speed is hit and miss with people, some not enjoying all of the gates, and inherent proclivity to missing shifts that comes with them.

6SpeedOnline.com Porsche 911 GTS review Carlos Lago Edmunds

Enter Carlos Lago, formerly of Motor Trend, formerly of Edmunds, and formerly, uh, of Motor Trend. Well, now he’s back at Edmunds. We will skip the commentary here, Lago is a nice guy. In any case, Lago is keen on rowing the gears to keep the new turbocharged engine on boil. Said blown Boxer actually produces a pretty sweet note. From the outside, it sounds a lot like the previous 991.1-era 911 GTS before the turbos. From there, typical 911 traits abound, including the way it can acquit itself through the corners.

Lago seems smitten, and we don’t blame him. Unfortunately, this review is brief. Hopefully we can look forward to longer-form content, an area where Lago can really shine.
