Porsche 911 Speedster Enters Production with Just 1,948 Units Being Made
Porsche 911 Speedster is brand’s own celebration of 70 years of Porsche.
Porsche is bringing back the iconic 911 Speedster, albeit, briefly. This new Speedster, based on the 991.2 platform, is a milestone vehicle, representing 70 years of Porsche sports cars. While the brand has operated since 1931, it wasn’t until 1948 when the first production Porsche street car, the 356, was officially certified for road-use. In order to celebrate this, Porsche has signed off on producing exactly 1948 road-going examples based on the 911 Speedster concept shown earlier this year.
According to Porsche, this 911 Speedster will be “the first car to be offered with the new Heritage Design packages. This exclusive accessory line by Porsche Exclusive allows for an even higher degree of personalization for the 911.” This Heritage Design package, in this case, gives the Speedster bespoke red paintwork; 21-inch cross-spoke wheels, reminiscent of the 911 RSR race car; a gorgeous two-tone interior; the “Talbot-style” mirrors, and the sweet red-tinted running lights, again, inspired by motorsport.
In addition to the Porsche Exclusive goodies, the Speedster has bespoke exterior panels. Based on the wider Carrera 4 body, the fenders, frunk and engine lid are all made of carbon fiber. Being a Speedster means extensive changes have been made to the roofline and profile of the car. The cowl panel is lower, improving sightlines. The windows and window frames are also shorter, visually making the Speedster appear much lower to the ground. A double-bubble rear cover replaces the rear seats, and, instead of a traditional rag top, this Speedster features a lightweight tonneau cover.

Underneath, the Speedster rolls on a GT3 chassis, and, thankfully, this also includes the spine-tingling, naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter, 9000 RPM flat-six engine, paired to a delightful six-speed manual transmission. Power is quoted at 500 horsepower, like the GT3, and, we’re guessing the same 339 lb-ft of torque, as well.
As previously stated, just 1948 examples will be made. Porsche hasn’t started a price yet, but they needn’t bother, this thing will sell out fast. Head to your local Porsche dealer, immediately.
