The Porsche 911 has evolved quite a bit during the course of its rich history, starting in 1964 with the 901. That car made 130 horsepower and weighed just 2,380 pounds. Check out this new video from Donut Media showing a pretty cool transformation of the last few decades:

1967 brought the 911 S and B series, which were both lighter and faster – the 911 S made 158 horsepower and the B made 178 horsepower.

The ‘70s ushered in the beginning of Porsches designed for the racetrack, pushing the horsepower far above 200. 1973 saw the debut of the Carrera RS – Spanish for race career – and added body features like a spoiler.

By the late 1980s, the 911 went through two major changes. The 930 came with a turbo, and the 964 rounded out the body into a smoother, more contoured shape. The mid 90s 964 Turbo S lowered and stiffened the car and added advanced cooling.

The late ‘90s saw another set of racing Porsches roll off the line. The 993 GT2 came with overfenders and an advanced aerodynamic wing. It also packed 444 horsepower. In 2000, the 996 was released on an entirely new platform that featured completely redesigned headlights.

The next innovation didn’t arrive until 2005 – the 996 Turbo S featured an intercooler, a turbo and 450 horsepower. In 2012, the most powerful Porsche in 911 history was released: the 997 GT RS 4.0. With an incredible 500 horsepower, added downforce and centerlock wheels were spotlighted.

Now, it’s the present day, and we have the 991 GT3 RS. It makes 500 horsepower, has a magnesium roof and a factory roll cage. It will be amazing to see where the Porsche is headed in the future.
