2014 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Debuts in Detroit

It’s got 50 hp more power than the regular Turbo, which has Porsche calling out the newly revealed 2014 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S as the flagship for the SUV arm of the marque.  The Turbo S, which was unveiled this weekend alongside a number of additional luxury vehicles including the new Corvette C7,  is a 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8 which goes zero to 60 in 4.3 seconds, topping out at 175 mph. That’s a lot of muscle for a car that probably gets used mostly to haul around lanky teenagers and expensive sunglasses. Standard 21-inch 911 Turbo II wheels with colored Porsche badges and high-gloss black accents are exclusive to the Cayenne Turbo S, along with dual twin-tube sport tailpipes meaning it’s not going to look wildly different from the base model Cayenne or the Turbo.

Understandably, the only significant difference is in the engine, which admittedly is a beast and something we’d like to take for a spin. However, despite the Porsche name, does the world really need an SUV that goes that fast? At $146,975, it’s hard to imagine so.  The SUV will hit dealerships in the spring.
