Fear and Respect: MotorTrend Reviews 2013 SRT Viper
SRT’s new Viper has quite the legacy to live up to. It’s only been out of production for two years, but in that time, there’s been a load of new sports car and changes to the automotive industry. Everything nowadays has a hybrid model, engine sizes are shrinking and output is going up. Does SRT’s brute stand a chance?

MotorTrend answers that question in their review of the Viper. SRT in general, and Ralph Gilles in particular, have made a pretty big stink about the Viper being more capable and more refined than the last one. Of course, that makes us wonder if the car has lost it’s edge. Well. We were wondering. After watching the review it is clear that that is not the case.

The real question is whether it’s a superior car to the Corvette ZR1 or not. MT already did that comparison in their magazine and found the Corvette to be an easier car to drive quickly. That’s probably true, but I’m not sure that’s enough to convince me to take the Vette over the Viper. As anyone who actually enjoys driving knows, there’s more to a car than specs. The ZR1 is fast. No doubt. But does it inspire fear? Does it warrant respect? The Corvette is fast, but the Viper is fast and hostile. I like that. What do you think?

Corvette ZR1 or Dodge Viper GTS?
