Porsche Taycan Turbo GT produces 1,019 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Porsche ever

Porsche started selling its first fully electric vehicle (EV), the Taycan, back in 2019. Since then, the all-electric Porsche has turned into a rival for the segment best, like the Lucid Air, BMW i5, and Tesla Model S. Like the Model S, the Taycan has a range-topper with four-digit horsepower figures: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

“We’ve come to realize that some of our customers are looking for a top model with an even higher position,” said Porsche Technical Project Manager Christian Müller. “An increase in power is one of the key components of a derivate developed for high performance, which is why we focused on that at a very early stage of development,” Müller said of the monstrously powerful Taycan Turbo GT.

With launch control activated, the Taycan Turbo GT will summon around 1,019 horsepower. However, drivers can activate Overboost power, which raises output to around 1,092 horsepower. Not quite enough to match the 1,234 horsepower of the tri-motor Lucid Air Sapphire, but closely comparable to the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Formula E-Derived Technology

To take the Porsche Taycan to new heights, Müller and his team emphasized the rear axle pulse inverter. The pulse inverter acts as a voltage converter for the 105 kWh battery. Müller’s team says the new unit “works with a current of up to 900 A (amps).” Paired with silicon carbide semiconductor materials, the Turbo GT’s efficiency is that much higher than the Turbo S model.

That’s not all. “The higher input torque increases the level of stress, which is why we made the transmission components more robust,” Müller said. Setting the Taycan Turbo GT up for a 900 amp application required the engineering team to pay attention to the whole Turbo GT package.

Part of the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance suite is “Attack Mode.” Attack Mode raises the Turbo GT’s output by nearly 161 horsepower for up to 10 seconds. It’s a function that the engineering team adapted from Porsche’s electric racing initiatives in Formula E.

Of course, Porsche reminds owners that owners use functions like Attack Mode “for circuit use only.” That’ll show them.
