Project Stork Episode 1: An Air-Cooled Porsche Story

One of our Editors begins restoring his personal Porsche legacy.
Each of us discovered the car hobby differently. Some of us were raised in a car-loving family, while others discovered it on their own in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood.
Internet Brands editor Manuel Carrillo III’s passion goes a step further: he was brought home from the hospital in a Porsche 911. You could say he was born into it.
Owned by his late father, the 1977 Porsche 911S that brought Manuel into this world and into our hobby has been dubbed “Project Stork.” It’s been languishing in a garage in California for quite a long time, and its resurrection and restoration will be the subject of a series of videos.
More than his first ride, it’s also Manuel’s father’s legacy. While cars themselves may be cold, emotionless appliances to some, surely we can all agree that the stories and experiences attached to them can be heartwarming and priceless.
Chronicled over at our sister site Rennlist, the video starts with Manuel introducing the car, sharing its story, and loading it onto a transporter to make its way over to the Haynes offices to begin the process of making it roadworthy again.
Haynes, best known for its comprehensive repair manuals, is a great ally to have on this journey of re-birth. Known for completely disassembling cars – and subsequently re-assembling them – for their excellent manuals, you could say they know cars inside and out.
Many a car enthusiast has saved themselves on repair costs by using these manuals as a guide on major and minor repairs alike. In a surprising coincidence, Manuel actually found a worn and dog-eared Haynes manual in the trunk of the 911 while preparing it for its journey across LA.
We eagerly await updates from our friend Manuel, and we are very much looking forward to sharing those updates with you. Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
