R34 GT-R V-Spec in Iconic Midnight Purple Hits Auction

The legendary R34 GT-R is already sought after, but the elusive Midnight Purple II Nismo V-Spec stands out as a unicorn.
This is it. The forbidden fruit. The poster car. The pixelated beast you chased down in Gran Turismo is finally roaming American roads legally. And it is not just any R34 GT-R. This is a 1999 V-Spec model finished in ultra-rare Midnight Purple II. Only 347 of these rolled out of the factory in this chameleon hue, and this example brings just the right amount of NISMO upgrades to make both purists and tuners drool in sync.
This gorgeous icon is currently available on Bring A Trailer. Make no mistake, this will not be cheap. Given its low 34,000 miles (read as 54,000 kilometers on the cluster), we could be looking at a new record holder by the time this auction comes to an end. At the time of writing, there are eight days left to bid. The current high bid is already an eye-watering $188,888. That used to be enough money to land you one of these cars. Those days, sadly, are gone with the wind.
A Tastefully Modified V-Spec in the Right Color

Built as one of 4,194 Series 1 V-Specs, this R34 Skyline GT-R is already a rare machine. Factor in the Midnight Purple II paint, and it becomes a collector’s dream. The factory color is enhanced with a full suite of genuine NISMO Z-Tune bodywork, including the front bumper, side skirts, and rear spats. A front splitter, aluminum hood, rear wing, xenon headlights, and NISMO door handle protectors round out the visual upgrades. The seller notes a few paint flaws here and there, but for a car like this, that only adds character.
The stance is just right thanks to 18-inch six-spoke forged alloy wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber. Gold Brembo calipers and slotted rotors handle braking duty. Adjustable coilovers from Quantum Racing Suspension replace the factory dampers. And with Super HICAS rear steering and the ATTESA E-TS PRO all-wheel-drive system, this car is not just about straight-line power, but also proper handling.
The car has a replacement RB26DETT under the hood. A previous owner installed it in 2010. The engine retains its twin-turbo layout, and the six-speed manual gearbox sends power to all four wheels. An HKS Silent Hi-Power exhaust helps the car breathe better and adds just the right amount of soundtrack without attracting too much attention. NISMO oil filler and radiator caps have been added, and the car received an oil change in preparation for sale.
Ready to Turn Heads on US Roads

Inside, the right-hand-drive cabin has a light NISMO treatment as well. The seats wear custom NISMO-branded black leather covers with perforated inserts. A NISMO shift knob and bronze interior trim add to the style. During its life, someone replaced the factory digital center screen with a NISMO Version II unit and swapped the original gauge cluster for a NISMO unit that now reads about 54,000 kilometers. Factory features like power windows, mirrors, climate control, and a driver-side airbag are all still present and accounted for.
Recently imported from Japan and now titled in Montana, this Skyline is ready to make its mark stateside. It comes with Japanese service records, manufacturer’s literature, a Car VX report, and all the clout you would expect from a Midnight Purple R34. Yes, there is some corrosion underneath, and the paint is not perfect. However, that does not take away from what this car represents. Nothing in this world is perfect, but this is damn close.
