Rimac Concept One Silently Slides Up the Hill at Goodwood

By -

It’s eerily quiet on the Goodwood hill as this electric monster muscles its way to a super quick time.

During this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed it was pretty clear that anything capable of running the timed section of the hill in under a minute was a supremely quick automobile. With allegedly 1300 horsepower available, you’d expect the Rimac to dominate, with a sub-60 second time. However, it’s a big car on a tight course, so a few smaller and nimbler cars with less power were capable of faster times. Regardless, the Rimac’s 54.89 second time put it ahead of Aston’s Vulcan AMR Pro, and Pagani’s Zonda 760RS, so it’s in pretty competent company.

Given the big car’s weight in electric gubbins, we’re somewhat surprised that it was quite as quick as it was. The driver behind the wheel was really hustling the car for all it was worth as you see him drop a wheel here and there. It sure looks like it’s going quickly, but without the sensation of sound it projects and oddly mind-melting visual. There’s just something not right about watching a car race around with the mute button on. Do you think you could ever get used to driving a silent supercar? The idea surely intrigues the heck out of us.

Being that electric seems to be the future of instantaneous acceleration and horsepower, how interested are you in the Rimac? It’s possible that 6Speed readers in the not-too-distant-future will be driving some seriously capable electric supercars. Especially considering how enthusiastic Porsche seems to be about electric [re: Mission E]. Formula E is blowing up on the motorsport front (with participation from Renault, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Jaguar confirmed for next season). Maybe we just need to accept that electric is the future, buy a Rimac, and get it over with.
