SEMA 2017: Prestone Debuts Custom 1972 AMC Javelin AMX Built by Ringbrothers
Prestone celebrated its 90th anniversary at the 2017 SEMA Show with the unveiling of a stunning 1972 AMC Javelin AMX built by the Ringbrothers.
On October 31st, Prestone kicked off its week-long residency at the 2017 SEMA Show with an epic debut of a Ringbrothers-built 1972 AMC Javelin AMX, painted in a yellow tone as a tribute to Prestone’s iconic color.
Jessi Combs — TV personality, metal fabricator, and “Queen of the Hammers” — introduced Jim and Mike Ring (of Ringbrothers) to an eager crowd of car enthusiasts, and chatted with them about the significance of the Javelin, a car that the brothers cherished since childhood.
6SpeedOnline first heard about this project when we spoke with the Ringbrothers at last year’s SEMA Show, and were surprised to learn about the incredibly tight 12-month build schedule. Using 3D scanning and printing, Jim and Mike were able to fast-track the build process, which involved moving the front axle forward by six inches, fabricating full carbon fiber body panels, and dropping in a 1,000+ horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 Hellcat motor.
Other features of this one-off build include RideTech suspension components, six-piston Baer brakes, 20-inch HRE wheels, a Chevy 12-bolt rear end mounted on a custom four-link suspension, and of course, Prestone’s always-evolving antifreeze/coolant (you don’t stay in business for 90 years by being stagnant!).
“When we began our partnership with Mike and Jim last year, we entrusted them with a high stakes project that not only had a quick turnaround but would also be an integral part of our 90th anniversary,” said Randy Fisher, Prestone’s VP of Marketing. “This Javelin AMX has far surpassed any of our expectations and we look forward to having it in our collection for the next 90 years.”
If you didn’t get to see this Javelin AMX at the SEMA Show, you’ll have another chance to catch it in action as it leads Prestone’s 90th Anniversary Rally in Los Angeles, ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show.
