Sixth-gen Camaro Gets Big Visual Upgrade With HRE FlowForm Series Wheels

Sixth-Gen Camaro

HRE’s innovative FlowForm wheels give this sixth-gen Camaro a great look and save almost 30 pounds over stock.

The sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro is already a great-looking machine on its own accord, perfectly meshing vintage styling cues with modern aggression. But as is often the case with new cars, it’s also somewhat lacking in terms of wheel design. That’s where companies like HRE come into play, however, providing us with wheels that are capable of completely transforming the way a car looks.

That’s certainly the case with this particular sixth-gen Camaro SS, which is owned by our very own, editor . HRE recently sent Richardson a set of its FlowForm Series wheels, which he reviewed at our brother site, LS1 Tech. While there are virtually endless options when it comes to aftermarket wheels, what sets HRE apart is its high design, attention to detail, and the advanced techniques it uses in flow forming technology.

These particular FF10 mesh wheels measure in at 20 x 10 inches up front and 20 x 11 inches in the rear with a positive 35mm/50mm offset. And yet, they weigh in at around 25 pounds each. That’s about 4.32 pounds less than the stock front wheels (29.32 pounds) and 7.3 pounds saved in the rear (32.30 pounds) for a total 27.56 pound reduction at all four corners.

HRE’s flow forming tech achieves this impressive weight loss while maintaining strength using constant pressure and stretching. The wheel is first cast on a production-grade dowel from a single metal disk or tube. The wheel is then rapidly spun around over an open heat source so that it can be stretched and compressed in intervals. HRE further heat treats the wheels to help lock in the hardness and durability of the structures, augmenting and finalizing the aluminum’s crystalline structures.

In the end, this process creates a cast wheel that’s both lighter and stronger than factory pieces. Such a large weight reduction can also be immediately felt in the way cars like this sixth-gen Camaro feel, particularly in the corners. And while looks are obviously subjective, we think that HRE’s FF10’s provide a big visual upgrade in this case. Throw in the fact that they’re cheaper than a set of true forged wheels, and that makes them rather hard to beat.
