The new Cayenne GTS is right around its mid-cycle refresh, meaning that a whole set of cosmetic items are being changed to rejuvenate the look of the older platform.

The SUV is getting a completely new fascia, rear bumper and a few other subtle exterior changes to differentiate it from when the car was initially launched.

What’s also changing, that’s very different from most normal mid-cycle refresh, is that Porsche is dropping the previously used 4.8L V8 in favor of a 3.6L twin-turbo V6 commonly found in the new Cayenne S.

During mid-cycle refreshes most auto manufacturers don’t change up the motors all that much and this is definitely a big change for the GTS.

While the new motor is considerably smaller than the previous one, the new Porsche mill makes more power and more torque.

The 3.6L twin-turbo V6 makes a hugely impressive 434 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque and accelerates the big SUV to 60 in just 5 seconds.

With more stringent environmental rules and regulations, reductions in displacement and turbo charging will definitely be a trend throughout the industry and one that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully however, Porsche hasn’t cried the death knell of the V8 or its melodious howl just yet since the company also uses it in the 918 Spyder.

In addition, there are rumors that it could be possibly going into the rumored 458 fighter Porsche is developing as well.
