Take a Look Inside the Russian ‘Grounded Stance’ Car Enthusiast Scene

Amazing cinematic takes us on a journey through some of Eastern Europes cleanest rides, slammed to the ground, or otherwise.

Ready for a little journey? Every once in a while we find videos that are downright excellent. Think Petrolicious quality, but fewer interviews. The video from ILB TV is a cinematic recap of the 2018 Grounded event in Sochi, Russia. Before you get started, make sure you have the time to watch the whole 16 minute plus video in one shot and save your assumptions. For the first two minutes, we were convinced this was the Russian version of Gymkhana. Nope, not completely at least. There are a few distinct elements to the short film, and obviously, a large part of it is the cars of the Grounded stance event.

The general scene is hard to pin down. More than a few vintage, and popular, platforms for the region make appearances. There’s older Volvos, a new VW Beetle, plenty of BMWs, and even a GT-R. That and the pair of R34’s that got us thinking about Ken Block and his shenanigans.

We started searching for a bit of an explanation. What exactly is “Grounded Stance”? We did some searching around the site for the event, and via Google Translate came up with one particularly descriptive translation. They call the Grounded show, “a unique event on the European automotive ‘Stance’ scene, uniting people with a common ideology and love for cars.”

Grounded Stance - Lada Niva

The car that took top honors is a 1982 Toyota Corolla, aka the Paskuda Project. This is taking “patina” to a whole new level. Though there’s a lot more grunge, and less polish, than many of the patina “builds” we’ve seen lately. It’s not the car we’d have picked, but it’s certainly representative of the scene. Our favorite was the drab green Lada Niva.
