Tesla’s making some real moves into the mainstream and perhaps, you’re not quite sure how to feel about it. Academically, you can understand the bigger implications as we’ve been seeing the Model X (all-electric SUV) showcased throughout the year on the motor events circuit.

According to Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s head of design, the Model X is almost ready to get on the road. He’s also confirmed that Tesla’s car for the masses, the Model E will not simply be a smaller version of the current Model S.

Although the two cars will share the same design language, they’ll look very different. In an interview with German publication AutoBild, Holzhausen alludes to the approach of other car designers like Audi who design in similar styles with differing lengths. He assures the readers that Tesla’s design approach will be very different.

The full electric Model E is expected to cost around $30,000 when it launches – which means big market manufacturers Ford, GM, etc. will be in their sights.

Still we’ve got a while to wait until the big Model E unveil, but it’s definitely going to be some exciting times ahead!
