The World’s First Twin-Turbo GT3 RS

The World’s First Twin-Turbo GT3 RS

This custom “TT3 RS” retains the extreme high-compression 4.0 L engine and makes a splash with unique thematic styling.

The Porsche GT3 RS is a car that most people dream of one day owning. There are so many things that make this car special and attractive to a wide list of potential buyers. Some enjoy the styling, some the exclusivity, and some the racing heritage. Without a doubt, all owners must love the experience of driving a pure sports car. We have to say that the RS variant of the already high-strung GT3 is near the limit of insanity. The 991.2 version of this iconic race-crafted vehicle is no different. It seems that 9,000 RPM in a  500+ HP 4.0 liter flat-six is a recipe for success. Combine that with a race-proven chassis covered in aerodynamics and carbon fiber and a legend is born.

However, it seems us enthusiasts can never get enough. The aftermarket industry nowadays gives you the option to really do just about anything to your car (money permitting). We think that the GT3 RS seen in this video is the result of exactly that. The TT3 RS is the world’s first twin-turbo 991.2 GT3 RS. The owner of this car is YouTube automotive personality, Edmond Barseghian. Thanks to his YouTube channel, Mondi, we get to learn just about every detail about this wild custom 2018 GT3 RS.

We start off with the most obvious feature of this car other than the turbos: the livery. This design was created by visual artist Tomyboy aka Rocketbyz. Tomyboy has done many automotive designs using his trademark color palette and styling. One such design was done for Rebellion Racing, a popular LMP1 team that races in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The reflective fluorescent wrap follows the same concept that the LMP1 designs do, which according to Barseghian is to not “make any sense”. This is why the wrap follows a wild array of colors that create a paint “streak to splatter” horizontally across the body. Realistically, this painting phenomenon only occurs in the exact opposite fashion, thus, it represents the whole nonsensical idea behind the car.

Berseghian wanted the car to be “avant-garde, unorthodox, and radical.” We think that he has achieved what he was going after if he had that in mind. Even he admits “who in the world puts twin-turbos on a GT3 RS?”. His answer to himself is “nobody”, because “it’s not supposed to make sense.” Even the turbos have the splatter theme heat-treated and coated onto the compressor housing.

In relation to the turbo kit, initially, Berseghian wanted to supercharge the Weissach Package equipped vehicle. He loved the sound of the naturally-aspirated engine so much that he didn’t want it to be muted by turbos. This is why he stated, “I hate the way twin-turbos sound, that’s why I didn’t get the GT2 RS instead.” However, the team over at Gintani managed to keep the insane 13.3:1 compression ratio 4.0-liter engine and still throw two turbos on it. Usually, high compression and forced induction don’t mix. The GT3 RS features one of the highest compression engines in the world. However, with the compromise of a low 5.5 PSI boost, the power output they managed was still around 801 WHP.

After doing more break-in testing over the next couple of months, the team at Gintani plans on turning up the boost to a total of 7.5 psi, which “should be about 1000 WHP.” The car will then have a low boost setting for track driving and a high boost for drag strip events. According to Berseghian, even at the low boost setting, he was “neck and neck” when racing with a Bugatti Veyron.

Obviously the team surrounding this project was top-notch. Even the bespoke aero kit including the RSR-inspired rear diffuser was done start to finish in 4 days. We think the product speaks for itself, however. We can’t wait to see this thing at high-boost!
