Lamborghini Is a Fiero Kit Car, And We're Impressed

We found it in an unlikely place, but this Fiero kit car Lamborghini Diablo is surprisingly thorough, down to the gauges!

Hear us out. We don’t normally post cars like this, but this one is a fine exception. We present to you a Fiero Kit car. But not one like the others. This one is, well… impressive. Yes, we actually just said that.

Being based on a 1985 Fiero GT, this car is based on a pre-facelift model. But you wouldn’t be able to tell from the millimeter perfect body draped over it. Mimicking a Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster, this re-make is one of the very few open-top replicas we’ve seen. And that makes it a bit unique. That is, if the top is functional. Inside, the gauges are authentic enough to make you look twice. And that’s a step farther than most kits, which only doll up the exterior.

Powering this ‘fake it till you make it’ ride is a GM V8 of some sort. The exact engine is a bit hard to tell in the engine bay without any clear marking. Our eyes spot a TPIS mini-ram intake, denoting a small block V8 is giving the rear wheels power. So it actually has some grunt to back up its looks. Alas, the engine is mated to a slushbox automatic. Can’t win them all.

Of all the places to find such an incredible ride, we discovered it on Copart. It shows that the car was flooded, and will sadly be sold with a salvage title. But, imagine the amount of fun you could have with a car like this. We envision all of the bucket list items you could ever check off. Road trip in a Diablo? Close enough! Race a Diablo? Plenty of autocrosses around where this car would stir up all sorts of attention. Or maybe even throw it on a drag strip and take it bracket racing.

Really, the options for this Diablo are endless. And if you ask us, we’d pick it up in a heartbeat if it were cheap enough. And on that note, we will be watching this lot closely.
