Porsche 997 Turbo Mishap Leads to Radical Rebuild

When life hands you lemons, you make 1,200 horsepower lemonade.

For most folks, engine failure might signal the end. Especially if you’re driving something with a, shall we say, exotic powerplant. But when misfortune strikes the good folks in the 6SpeedOnline forums, they don’t accept defeat. Rather, they see it as an opportunity to do something even better. To improve their already impressive rides. It’s the automotive equivalent of turning lemons into lemonade.

And that’s exactly what forum member rix did recently after an unfortunate incident with his Porsche 997 Turbo. We’ll let him explain what happened, since it involves a very particular phrasing.

“In September of 2015 I had a catastrophic foreign object ingestion incident (F.O.I.I.) which is also known as a foreign unknown car kniblet — or (**********). We were installing an IPD plenum the night before Mitch from Cobb came in to tune my car. Suffice to say, there was no tuning the next day. Zero compression in two cylinders made sure of that.”

At this point, many folks would be understandably frustrated. Or downright angry. But the OP took it in stride, seeing this unfortunate incident as more of an opportunity than a problem.

“Thusly, the quest for more power had officially begun. To be fair, I have been attempting to ruin perfectly good cars by making more power for years — so I had a pretty narrow set of requirements for such a project. After moping around the house in a state of nearly pure sorrow for a week or two Mrs. Rix agreed that the 911 would be made great again, and that budget was secondary. That was probably her first mistake.”

The OP began his quest by loading up the engine in a rental van and delivering it to Evolution Motorsports in Phoenix AZ himself.
