Fourth Lap Record of Our Jetta  in Four Meetings

Thompson made a good start from pole in race 2 and got ahead. And while Gio gave it his utmost, he could not match the Polo. Still, he was rewarded with our fourth lap record in as many race meetings. But it was not enough to make an impact. We ended up second in the second race, but still took the overall win for the day. “We were a little lucky today,” Giordano conceded. “But that’s not something we are very used to!”

So, eight races into the championship chase, we had been on pole position for five of them. We have won four times, broken the lap record repeatedly. And closed right down to within a few points in the title chase, despite our late start. Our title rival had also made impressive progress with his albeit more contemporary Polo. And we’re in the thick of a monumental title battle.

Then lockdown reared its ugly head again. To reshuffle the calendar and leave us hanging in the middle of it all. That however gave us a little time to reflect on what we had achieved. So we used the pause to great effect. Can’t tell you much yet, but our budget Jetta race program had raised enough eyebrows and attracted ample attention. And that’s allowed us to go out and tie up some big plans plans for our 2022 race season!
