997.1 Oil in Spark Plug Tubes

2005 997.1 C2 3.6L MT

If I have oil in the spark plug tubes, can I simply replace the tubes, or is more work necessary?

Thanks

Whether more work is necessary depends on where the oil is coming from. Do you have a leak somewhere that needs to be fixed?

No leaks as far I can see, no oil drops, no oil on motor, just inside two plug tubes.

It took me a minute to understand what you meant by tubes so I had to edit this. I read your post to mean there were only two tubes on the car, but after typing out a message I realized you meant there was only oil in two of six tubes. If that's the case, it's possible/likely the seals on the coils are bad and letting oil in, so they should be replaced with new coils. It's a pretty common issue on these cars.

Here's a really good write-up about it (search for "tube" to find the specific reference): Click me

Yes, just oil in two tubes. I'll replace them and the coils and then check them after awhile. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. Looking at it, it looks like the camshaft cover needs to come off to replace the tubes?

I honestly can't remember and would have to do a search myself, sorry! It's been a few years since I replaced the plugs and coils on my car. I don't remember having to take off the covers, but I have a 996 Turbo not a 997 so it might be different anyway.

Thanks. I think on the 2005 997 the covers have to come off, but once I know for sure I will post it in case anyone else ever needs to know.
