New guy from Austin here to learn about 911s.
Hoping to get a fun weekend/track car in a couple of years. I want to learn more about the '77-'89 3.0s and 3.2L cars which is what I am interested in getting. Never driven or even been in a 911 but have always wanted one.
I am fairly handy and mechanical so plan to do most work myself. I understand that the 3.0L from the 911SC is a very solid engine. Once I finally get one the car is going to be driven about 3,000 - 5,000 miles a year (weekend and track). Definitely want a car I can drive at the track, drive it hard and drive home. Everyone tells me that a 911 from those years fits that description.
I briefly considered waiting longer and buying a more exotic (read Ferrari) but the high depreciation if you actually drive the car and the high cost of maint. finally told me that I was way too practical a person to even consider getting one.
I'll definitely be checking out and reading the threads.

If you were closer, I would take you under my wing to teach you. Go to the site provided, there should be other Porsche people in your area who would be willing to help you.
howdy. I have a 1979 911sc that I'm seriously thinking about selling. the car has a strong 3.0 with new pistons and jackets and general refreshing at 160k. 326k total miles on the car. new Bridgestone RE730's last november all the way around. I use it as a daily driver, but will be starting to use my 2003 C4S as my daily car soon. the sc would be perfect for occasional driving or autocrossing. 6-disc cd, moma wheel, etc. If you're serious, let me know.
