New kid on the block
It's a good addiction...I've been there for 22 years with the same Pcar.....I just keep trying to keep it sharp and up to date with the newer models...more speed is always a quest...........it's a fun sport...
Took her to work today (50 miles from home) and then on a quick trip to Atlanta and then back home - another 400 miles. So as of tonight, 154,xxx miles on her. Engine case has never been opened - leakdown & compression tested out like new. The previous owner is a car & airplane mechanic who took pretty meticulous care of her, and who passed on to me three folders bulging with maintenance history (and sent me off with every inch of space in the car packed up with all manner of spare parts). Interior & exterior condition are 8+ - a very few cosmetic issues which I was willing to accept in exchange for a very nice price.
She is currently wearing a set of Michelin Pilot Sports, which I like pretty well. Sidewalls are a little mushy for competitive driving, but for general use they have offered decent handling, have been grippy enough, and not toooo noisy.
My mod plans:
NADA!
Oh, sure, I have my dreams and wishes - but my plan is to keep her totally stock - at least until I get my driving skills improved to match what the car can do in stock condition. That will be a good year or two, I'm guessing.
Remind me I said that when I start drooling over leather Recaros, Momo steering wheels (or heck, even a 930 wheel), Brembo brakes & slotted rotors, roll cages & harnesses.....
Thanks for the rundown....it sounds like you got a nice car with "sorta" low miles given her age. My car is an 87 and it has 221K miles on it but it's no where close to being stock. I find two types of Porsche owners, those who keep their cars as close to stock as possible and secondly those (like me) who have extensive workovers striving for more HP and sleeker looks. It does come down to "how much money do you want to spend"!!
If you're thinking about x-crossing your car or tracking it to any extent you might to think about lowering your car. It will handle better in the cornering and look a lot sleeker. It's an inexpensive mod in an 88...only requires some minor changes...I had mine lowere a few years ago and I can really see the difference in the handling and looks.
