New kid on the block
New kid on the block
Hi all,
I'm the newish owner of a lovely old Porsche - a 1988 911 coupe in Gran Prix White. Got it from a guy in Houston, TX who had it 12 years and did a great job taking care of it. It's a real gem, runs solid, feels great. Bone stock with very minor exceptions (stereo, spacers in the rear, sway bar in front). I love this car more than anybody should love any "thing" for sure.
I've had the car since July so just got in on the tail end of the track season. I've joined PCA, NASA-SE and SCCA and have been getting acquainted with the whole motorsports thing by working pit & grid & other jobs for various events at Road Atlanta & Barber (I'm in Alabama). I've driven 2 autocross events & done one track day at Little Talladega so far - just getting my feet wet. I have a long way to go before I am up to what my car can do, even in its completely unmodified state.
My evil plan is to do some more AX next year, keep working NASA events to bank credits, then the next year, I'll be able to do several track weekends over the season.
So that's my story - now here are a few pictures:

Thanks you guys. I'm just learning my way around the site here, setting up my avatar, signature, etc.
I just picked up the car in Houston this past July, but the guy I got it from said he didn't track it but a couple of times. It was his "run around" car, and his 1990 Reynard was what he preferred to race in - which is why he ultimately sold the 911.
Here she is with her former garage-mates:

So why are you green with envy? What are you driving?
Oh and ABS, LSD, and all that good stuff. There are trade-offs in having an older car, but I went for it for precisely the reasons it makes you green I guess - classic, timeless sound, drive & look.
Here she is with her unmentionables all hanging out there - got the stereo updated today. Yeah I have my priorities! The purists are all "I ONLY LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OF MY ENGINE." Well I do love the sound, but I also like some tunes on a long trip.
And this car came with kick-azz speakers & amp. The stereo wasn't bad (20 yr old Kenwood) but the trunk-mounted 10 disc CD changer had gone to hell. Took that out a few weeks ago, found an in-dash with front loaded single CD slot and USB to plug in a thumb drive. Luckily once the guy got the wiring untangled & reworked, the new unit (very basic Eclipse) slipped right in, plugged into my old amp & speakers, and sounds great.
