Okay, so my 3.4 996 c2 has close to 90k miles. Running strong, and has never had anything other than basic maintenance and service. This is my DD. However, things are rattling here and there, and the day it dies, I am stripping it and racing it (under condition that I have the $).

I have a friend (who knows what he is doing) that just picked up a 3.6 w/ 21,000 miles. He said he can get it into my 996 for $4000.

QUESTION IS: What should I do, I've been entertaining all these ideas and don't know what to do.

(1) Should I swap it, then sell my engine? If so, how much should I expect from a 3.4 with 90k miles?

(2) Should I keep my DD (as it is), and buy a 911 (or boxster) shell and drop the 3.6 in it? If so, what shell?

(3) Should I swap the 3.6 into my c2, and with the remaining 3.4 drop it into another 911 (or boxster) shell?

(4) Do nothing, and be wise about the cash that already isn't superfluous.
