Engine detail

Has any one detailed their engines? I'm curious on how to do it? I used to detail engines on american cars but I never detailed a 2000 911 Porsche engine before. What I used to do is cover the alternator and the fuse box with a plastic bag and duck tape. Pressure wash the engine bay using http://compare.ebay.com/like/150848905751?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar engine cleaner and then drawn it in wd-40. Made sure i did it on a cold engine and let it sit for at least 4 hours before turning the engine on.
