1997 Porsche 911 GT1 PICS
Back in 2001 I had a ride in a 911 GT1 driven by a racing driver (he wasn't the owner) around a track in Sweden. The car's performance was outstanding (it seemed like the acceleration would never fade as the car was still pulling hard at 150mph at the end of the straight) and almost every corner was taken sideways as the track was damp. In other words a lot of fun. Inside the car it was damn loud just at idle (I remember the radio being on in the pits but you could barely hear it at idle so it seemed like a pointless feature) and when the turbos kicked in at about 4000rpm it sounded like a jet engine.
I've had a ride in a Diablo VT -95 around the same track and it seemed sluggish (even though it was driven hard) and wobbly in the corners in comparison. Compared to the Carrera GT, in reference to earlier asked question in the thread, I would believe the GT1 to be the superior vehicle both performance (despite the CGT's power advantage) and handling wise.
The owner had (back in 2001 that is) besides his 911 GT1, a CLK GTR, Dauer 962 LM, Dauer EB110 SS, Mac F1, Mac F1 GTR (road legal, looked like an LM in its orange paint), XJ 220, Diablo GT, F40, F50 and 550 Barchetta. Pretty nice collection. The GT1, CLK-GTR and Dauer EB110 SS can be seen in the pictures below.
