As someone said earlier, they did. FIA regulations required at least 1 road version for the 1998 racers. This is why there is only one street legal '98 GT1 as well as others like the CLK-LM. The F1 GTR longtail had 3 road cars made.

That car is one of the most beautifully sculpted cars I've ever seen in my entire life.
