I have a 1991 911 I was having an issue with the oil pressure. so I had it checked at my dealership, they told me the oil pressure was very low and the car was undrivable...well that bll**** because I have put about 25 miles on the car since. Then I brought it to a local porsche mechanic and he also said the oil pressure is low but noone can tell me why? any ideas? it's running at a little over 2 on the guage but there is no ticking or any noise. no lights on or anything. and the car seems to be running up to par so It doesnt seem to be losing any compression.
If your 964 is only putting out 2 bar maximum oil pressure, I would not be driving it any distance until I find out the problem. Did anyone put a pressure gauge on it to verify the pressure and at what RPM it is reading 2 bar? 2 Bar at idle is well within spec. 2 bar at 4000 rpm at operating temp is not normal. It may be something as simple as a pressure sending unit going bad or or a stuck oil pressure relief valve. There are 2 pressure relief valves in a air cooled case, one pressure relief and one saftey valve. If you do really have low oil pressure you may be doing much more damage to the engine by driving it. A 911 engine can go much farther than 25 miles without good oil pressure, but I wouldn't do it. You are asking for a internal disaster by driving it. Have it check out properly.
