Unfortunately the 23mm master cylinder did not arrive when planned. Regardless the car drove great. The brakes are a day/nite difference and the 23mm master cylinder should arrive soon. Car is going in for a 4-wheel alignment on the 20th just because it has now got some miles on it and I want to be sure all is good. We are going to cut the Weltmeister shifter stalk off and tig weld the stock stalk on to add the couple of inches I want to return the stalk to the proper height and it will of course be chrome instead of the black the Weltmeister is. Really enjoyed the ride to Petaluma and back.
OK, so we got the 23mm master cylinder in and I am beyond amazed at the braking now. Better than I ever hoped or imagined. I am calling that done. Got the alignment done and though the car was not off by much, it is now aligned correctly and goes down the highway straight with no hands on the wheel. Done. Also, got the Weltmeister short-shifter stalk off and tig welded the stock 914 shifter stalk onto the Weltmeister short-shifter mechanism and it is now perfect. Done. Finally, I decided that the Momo steering wheel hub was just to long/deep for my liking. It was just about 4". I sourced an old (great condition) solid, short hub that is reportedly 2 3/8" deep. We will see when it arrives. I will do a side by side comparison of the two to see the difference. Once that is sorted, the wheel will go to Dallas Customs to be double wrapped in the high-quality leather with black stitching.
Here is the new (used) hub I was able to find. It will look so much nicer in the car. I test fit it and all I need to do is chamfer the top opening for the horn ring a tiny bit. Then I will give it a nice coat of satin black and install it. Prototipo wheel shipped off to Dallas Customs yesterday. Looking forward to getting it back in about 7-10 days.
And her it is in the car- don't sweat the allen screws, I have a brand new set going in after I drive it to make sure everything is 100% perfect. I will put the new screws in place then.
We drove her about 250 miles each way (not a trailer queen) to Monterey for Werks Reunion for the Judged competition. What a terrific venue this year. Less than a mile off the freeway, easy in and easy out, all on concrete. The cars were well spaced on the lawn and room for people to walk around and look at everything. I was parked next to a 1 of 11 916 factory car with a fully documented history -very rare car. It just completed (Wednesday) a complete restoration by Patrick Motorsports and the car was nothing less than stunning. They know how to restore these little cars. Then I had another documented race car, Greg & Sandi Taylor's 914-6 conversion that just completed a full build and was finished in Willow Green, stunning color. Those two cars took the ribbons- well earned for both of them.
