944 track car experience anyone?

I am thinking of making a project car out of a 944Turbo sometime in the future. Can someone give me tips, advice, url links, anything?

I want to know what Im going to be getting into.

My plans are to have a track car that can also double as a daily driver....so I dont want too crazy of components.

Im thinking maybe 350ish HP

I dont know what the best brakes, suspension, or anything are going to be for my purposes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Bill W is infamous around these parts
Vitesse can handle your horsepower requirements pretty easy. Suspension JRZ or Motons. Brakes you can get out pretty cheap by using 968 big reds or if you want to go custom 996turbo brakes will fit with the right adapters and custom made rotors (Ian on rennlist has done this).
Before you start to mod the car figure out what class you want to race.
Not to mention the other board but 6speed is the best for the higher end cars, but rennlist has a very active 944 turbo section and lots of people that already race them.

Depending on what year you have (88s or 89) or (86-88) you will be driving your car in 2 different classes. If you want to do any PCA Club racing, you can only set up your car "Stock" to be in the most competitive class F. (I built an 89 944S2 race car for this class, which also includes 944T's from 86-88). PCA club racing has some pretty strict rules as to what you can do to your car and keeping it stock. Big red's are not allowed in the stock class. You obviously do not want to do anything to a 944T that is going to bump you out of that class and put you in a class competing against 911 turbos and twin turbos. There are some pretty mean AND competitive 951's in open clasess but that takes tons of $/experience. Anything that could not be ordered as a factory option is not allowed with the exeption of: Exhaust, cat removal, Intake before the MAF, Wheels & Tires (this is a touchy one), Suspension; you can do coilovers in front & rear ("helper springs"), but you cannot remove the torsion bar. You can pretty much get away with shedding a bunch of weight in the interior dept. (Loosing weight = faster car & lap times )
Remove the seats, carpet, airbags (if any) , you can change the front bumper to a fiberglass 1 peice. I got a couple of MOMO rookie seats for it and a roll bar. Talk with Carl at Racer Edge, I purchased most of my parts from him, he always gave me good pricing and tips. (http://www.racersedge-inc.com/) He was running the fastest lap times in his 89 S2 F class car at the time of my project. He knows his stuff. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Good luck.
Later,
Luis

Thanks for the response guys. Im probably not going to be racing in club events for a while so Im not going to worry about PCA class resrictions.
Im actually going to be looking for a 951 sooner than expected so this month Im going to be looking around and making some calls to test drive some.
Also I still gotta sign me and also my dad up for PCA.

Thanks again for the info guys

Floridas a bit far...and my range wont be above $8K which is probably a lot less than what you would want to let her go for.
