Questions on 930 vs. 964 turbo
I am strongly considering buying a 930, but I noticed along the way that there are a lot of 964 turbo deals to be had out there. I originally stayed away from 964s because of their inherent faults (RMS, twin plug, and dual mass flywheel issue, etc.). Now, I'm wondering if there are enough significant differences between the turbo and non-turbo cars to warrant a look.
I know the 996 turbos uses a different engine than the M96 used in the non-turbo cars and I wondered if the same might be true of the 964 turbos. Does anyone know if the issues I described above are as prevalent in the 964 turbos as in the normally aspirated cars?

964 Turbo
Hi,
The 90 - 93 964 turbo still uses the original aircooled 3.3 turbo engine, then went over to the 3.6 M64 type, they have the G50/50 5 speed. The 1 to have is the 964 Turbo S but they only made a few. What ever you buy you are always going to have to face spending money on maybe a previous owners Lack of Maintenance or Care
Good luck.

I may be wrong, of course, but I think the 964 Turbo S was RoW and not for the USA. The Turbo 3.6 would be the one to have in the USA.
The first 964 Turbos had the 3.3L motor from the 930 with some alterations to make it have a bit more power.

There were a handful of Turbo S's imported into the US. The are significantly more expensive than the standard Turbos.
Not an expert on 964's, but took a 1992 964 Turbo out on test run and was sincerely disappointed. Car had Garret after-market turbo (owner did not know details) and could not hold a candle to my 930. Lunge when turbo kicks in didn't have that "set you back in your seat" feel that my 930 does. Several of my friends who have or who have driven or own 964 turbos have told me NEVER sell my 930; there is no equal. Steve

930 = Raw

That being said that 92 you drove might not of been tuned right. My 91 pulls and runs great with just an aftermarket exhaust. My 930 was fast but I would have to give the edge to the 965.
And yes don't sell your 930 Like I did
They are the true Porsche Turbo

well i had an 86 930 and now have a 91 965. I much prefer the 965 as it handles 10x better with coils , has strong ABS brakes, better ac, power steering that has a ton of feel , a 5 speed tranny, a better k27 turbo, and the same reliable 3.3 litre motor. The 930 was fun for about a half hour .But i take my 965 on business trips that can take 2 days and personally think its the right blend of comfort and character.
