Just drove a 1989 930 for the 1st time!
Well, having owned a 944, 944 Turbo, 911 Targa, 911 Carrera, 968, 996 C4S and a 997 CS I finally drove the car that I always dreamt of for the 1st time. It was too cold for me to rev it past 3200 rpm - the car is not mine but belongs to someone I just met today.
It's too bad I didn't get to explore the car beyong those rpms to experience it on boost and what the car is all about. I look forwards to driving it again sometime as this is a car I've always wanted.
It was a Grand Prix white 1989 model with the 5-speed G50 transmission. I couldn't get my eyes off it and, to me, it's one of the best looking 911 ever on even level with the 993 Turbo.

I had an 89 930 as well...awesome, visceral cars. I used to half jokingly say that it went from 0-40 in 5 sec and 40-60 in 0.3 seconds when it was on full boost! Great fun if you get used to when the boost kicks in...usually just means getting on the gas before apex to time the boost at exit. External wastegate is also fun when it dumps going up through the gears...sounds way better than my current modded 996tt

My first ride in 1983 was with Martin Steiger, owner of German Autohaus, in a 1977. I owned vettes, 442's, GTO's, 55/57 hi-po chevies, Mopars and other powerhouses. The difference between European and American was that American was brute power and Euro was sophisticated, smoothe power...until my 930 experieince. Since then I have been a huge fan of the 930.
