What is your opinion...if not, then i will wait and get a Pcar when i have more money. i am just looking at getting out of my truck into a good car. thanks man, and i hope all is going well with your resto..

Absolutely not. Walking into ownership of a 930 with $25k is insane. I don't know how much I have in my car but its certainly more than my friends and thats stuff that you have to know before you get into it. Keep in mind that even if you get an 80's carrera an engine rebuild will still be north of $10k. These cars were not cheap cars then and are not cheap cars now. People think that because the entry price is low that they are cheap, they are wrong.

Naples, if you have your heart set on a 911 go pick up an SC. They are great cars and can be had for low teens for a nice one. The 3.0 engines are very reliable. The model years you should look at are 78-83. If you can fine an 80 even better because they have the euro pistons in there that are higher compression. You would have a lot of fun in that car and it would help you learn how to drive a 911. Its best to not jump into a 930 w/o a fair amount of 911 seat time.

Thank you for you truthfulness. I appreciate it. I wanted an honest answer. A 1980 SC is what you recommend? Any certain place to start looking? I would just like some information on it first. Im kind of skeptical about buying a 20-30 year old car and using it as a daily driver. I need something that is reliable and that can take around 200 miles per week on it. I know with that said it doesnt sound like I should even be looking at a Pcar in that budget, but it is/was worth a try.

Check out autotrader, pelican parts forum, rennlist classifieds, and ebay. Just remember that cheaper is not always cheaper on these cars and you have to be very careful on what you buy. Sometimes spending $3k more on the purchase can end up costing you $15k less in the first few years of ownership by getting a car with less issues. Maybe a 911 is not in your budget now and you should wait, but thats why I suggested an SC. You could pick one up in the low teens(12-14 for a nice one) and have at least $10k left in your budget to use for repairs, mods, etc. If you are mechanically inclined you can even start doing your own work to keep costs down.

If you are going to track the car a targa really isn't the way to go. That Carrera is nice and the 87-88 have the G50 tranny which is a nice step up from the 915 in the earlier car. Buying a car at the end of your budget does not leave a lot of room for emergency repairs though.

ya... i mean the car wont be tracked at all. I am getting it for the love of having a Pcar and just the character of it. it will occasionally see some high mph runs while i own it, but will mostly be doing the speed limit of 70 on the interstate. i like the targa a lot, but i am worried of repairs and the like.

The targas usually run a couple grand cheaper than the coupes so if you like them go for it.

One more thing is to beware of east coast cars. They are prone to rust and broken head studs....
